Types of clubs
Targeted
at the affluent clientele, different types of clubs with different nature and objectives
are established for members of similar hobbies and lifestyle to gather together
for varying purposes. The followings are
different types and examples of different clubs:
1. Country clubs
Country clubs are often privately
owned clubs with a closed membership. With its
location in the suburbs, substantial grounds for outdoor activities are
available for offering a variety of recreational sports and facilities for
dining and entertaining, including typical athletic offerings such as golf court, tennis court, and swimming pool. An example would be the Riviera Country Club in
Pacific Palisades, California.
2.
Residence clubs
Residence clubs are clubs which
are located near residential buildings where neighborhood can utilize their
services and facilities. Common offerings include gym and swimming pool.
Usually, only members of nearby residence are granted entry into the clubs. An
example would be the Hyatt Residence Club.
3.
Professional clubs
Professional clubs are especially
designed for professionals and are mainly research-oriented. They serve as a
platform for research-and-development purposes as well as a social platform for
professionals. An example would be the Hong Kong Medical Association which aims
at bringing together medical practitioners to promote the medical profession
and public health.
4.
Proprietary clubs
Proprietary clubs are commercial enterprises owned by
individuals, partners, or companies but managed by a committee. It is usually a
for-profit group which sells memberships
to the general public. An example would be the Sydney Turf Club.
5.
Fraternal Club
The word fraternal implies “brotherhood”. A fraternal
club is a type of social organization whose members freely associate for a
mutually beneficial purpose such as for social, professional or honorary
principles. An example would be the Italian American Fraternal Club.
Besides clubs, theme parks are also established to
meet the needs of leisure and entertainment. The following are some types and
examples of theme parks:
1.
Cultural theme parks
Cultural theme parks are parks with
a historical theme to educate visitors and promote a place’s culture. An
example would be the Formosan Aboriginal Culture Village, in which the Taiwanese aboriginal
heritage is preserved while at the same time, providing a spacious venue for people
to enjoy their leisure time.
2.
Attractions theme parks
Attractions theme parks are parks
designed for families and friends offering a variety of rides and attractions
according to different unique themes. An example would be Universal Studio
Singapore in which all attraction lands are themed according to American movies
such as Shrek and Transformers.
Evaluation:
After doing research, I learnt more about the variety of clubs as well as the different purposes that they serve. This exercise surely did enrich my learning in the topic of clubs which serve as an extension and additional knowledge apart from the in-class PowerPoint notes.
